Outdoor Club Racing
Eastwoodbury Lane (Sundays)

Arrangements are relatively informal. The track is available for club racing every Sunday - unless a Major Event has been arranged. Racing is open to all drivers and no prior booking is required. Gates are open by 9am, racing starts as soon after 10.30am as practical.

If you want to race, but cannot arrive by 10am, please phone Les, Ray, or Trevor
see contact page for details

The track is not available at any other time - so please do not "just turn up" mid-week or on Saturdays.

If you are not a regular user of the track, check out these useful hints: -
What you need to race;      Track conditions;      Race Procedure

Model car racing is fun, but it has its dangers, and we are very conscious of the need for participants to protect themslves with Public Liability Insurance. Membership of the BRCA includes adequate cover. Drivers who are not Club members will be asked to produce their BRCA licence or proof of alternative cover. Click here for more details.

The track occupies a corner of a large (local) football complex, with a residential area next door. Please help us to be 'good neighbours' by observing a few simple customs

What you need to race
A Car and Radio Transmitter/Controller
Click here for details of suitable cars. The radio gear should be 27mhz or 40 mhz with removeable frequency 'crystals'.

Battery packs - as many as you can afford to buy. A freshly charged battery will be required for each race. If one battery pack only is used, the frequent re-charging will shorten its life. Click here for more details.

A battery charger and 12 volt battery. A limited number of mains (240v) power outlets are available, but they are not in the pitting area and cannot be used in wet conditions.

A 'pit' table - something you can sit at and prepare (repair) a car in relative comfort. he car park/pitting area is a mixture of grass and compressed 'hardcore'/soil.

Tools and spares - there is no shop at or near Eastwoodbury Lane.

A mobile phone? - just in case .....

Personal Liability Insurance - Club members benefit from the BRCA scheme. 'Guest' drivers are protected for 3 race events. Click here for more details.

Appropriate clothing - the track is exposed to wind and rain (and sun). An average racing day involves 7 hours at the trackside. be prepared! Refreshments - Traditional 'burgers'; tea; coffee and canned drinks are available, but you may prefer something different.

Track Conditions
The area to the north of the track (see diagram) is the car park and pitting area. Some parts can be quite 'soft' after rainfall. The area to the south (around the drivers rostrum and 'tea hut') is always firm.

The track is well drained and has a high level of grip.
A low retaining wall surrounds the track except at the marshal positions.
Drivers are protected from sun and rain by an enclosed rostrum - but can suffer from reflected glare!

Race Procedure

On arrival, find a place to park/pit. The Race Organiser will call for drivers to book in when everything else is ready.
The number of racing heats is determined by the number of drivers on the day. Heats are arranged for the following classes: -

  • Standard saloons (motors of 27 turns or more)
  • Modified saloons (motors of less than 27 turns)
  • 19 turn saloons (motors of 19 turns with fixed timing)
(Modified and 19T cars may race together)
  • Petrol engined saloons (if there are sufficient entrants)
  • Racing usually consists of four qualifying rounds for each heat, followed by two finals, but this will be reduced during the shorter, winter race days. Points and trophies are awarded to club members in a 13 week Championship League.
We try to ensure that drivers of similar ability are grouped together.
