The Rules - Marshalling

As a driver, you will know that this is one of the most important tasks of any meeting. A marshal's job is to assist crashed or disabled cars - not to repair them. It's common-sense, but here are a few simple DOs and DON'Ts.

DO:
Go to your marshalling post immediately after your race (the same number as your race car number from the previous heat).
Wear the yellow marshal jacket.
Watch the areas of track directly in front of you.
Stay alert - incidents happen quickly and not many are predictable.
Respond quickly and return to your marshal point as soon as possible.
Take care when replacing cars after recovery - preferably off the racing line.
Remove disabled cars from the track.
Beware approaching traffic at all times.
On the track - stay low! It is very difficult for drivers to see through you!
Continue to marshal until the race is over and all the cars have finished.

DO NOT:
! Watch the racing.

! Respond to incidents beyond your sector.
(It can be embarrassing to be away from your position when an incident occurs there!)

! Run/jump on the track - the cars are fragile if a person falls or steps on them!

! Impede or damage cars which are racing.

! Replace a car in front of an on-coming car.

! Remain on the track while attempting to repair a disabled car.

! Drink or eat or talk to spectators during marshalling.

REMEMBER:
· Many cars are fitted with reverse and are usually able to recover themselves.
· There is no rush to charge your cells, there is usually an hour between rounds.

Any queries relating to marshalling or any other race procedure, please see Steve Silcock or any other member of the Committee.

Marshal as you would wish your car to be marshalled!!
